For what seems like an eternity I've heard whispers of a rather unusual food combination, that being " bacon and chocolate". Yes, I know you may be repulsed by the mere thought of it, I was too when this little combo first brushed by my ears, in fact it generated an involuntery gag from deep within, but after a few months of it sashaying through various conversations I slowly became desensitised and actually ended up drooling at the mere mention of it so it was no surprise that one day I ended up at epic nomz pouring over their The Brooklynite article, what is a Brooklynite you ask? straight from the horses mouth:
"The general blueprint for the Brooklynite, our trial creation, is simple in that it is based around high quality beef, cheese, lettuce and buns. Of course, to really raise this dish to the level of true Epicness, we added a small, but significant twist: the burger would be topped with chocolate-covered crispy bacon. Many will initially scoff at the idea of adulterating strips of salty bacon with a sweet and creamy coat of milk chocolate (indeed, we had our initial doubts), but we believe that after reading our notes and seeing these mouth-watering culinary treasures, you will be convinced to garnish your next burger similarly."
I hit my first hurdle when I was unable to locate "wild boar bacon and Ghirardelli milk chocolate"... hmm... what to do, what to do... ah, I know.. twitter! I put out a cry and harnessed the power of @thefoodgeek, @airliebee, @megmaker and within a few days had the matter sorted with smokey bacon from our local butcher and some Nestle dark chocolate melts.
So armed with some lovely fresh burger buns, lettuce, NZ Hothouse vine grown tomatoes, Puhoi Valley camembert cheese, smokey bacon, Nestle Dark Chocolate Melts, pork mince, apricots, Hellmann's Best Foods Mayonnaise and Waha Wera Kiwifruit & Habanero Sauce we set about creating an rather unusual masterpiece...

All things considered it didn't turn out too bad at all, we unanimously agreed that the bacon and chocolate combo was awesome, with most agreeing that it was best left out of the burger itself... I suspect it was something to do my with my decision to use pork mince instead of beef... something that I hope to try in the future... if the family doesn't mind being my foodie guinea pigs :D
