geek not all things "upgraded"...

Google DeskBar v0.5.81...are best. Some are for sure but some aren't.... some are best left "as is"... un-twiddled with... a "basic" version. Simplicity rules in my book because heck, life can be complicated enough as it is at times without throwing fancy upgrades into the pot © Mazeguy

There I was minding my own business, trotting around the place upgrading my applications and I noticed that I was still running a beta of Googe Deskbar so I figured as it's been an aaaaaaaaaaage since I updated I best grab the latest version so I hit Google Deskbar > Help > Help and I was automatically transported from http://deskbar.google.com/ to http://desktop.google.com/ "hmm a name change" I thought and that's when my thinking ceased... the next thing I remember thinking was Oh My Freakin God! I have a Google erection on my desktop! © Mazeguy

Just to clarify something... I DO I love Google, they save my bacon (and make it) on many a given day... I love their products too.. most of them that is. I love Picasa, Hello is cool (massive smileys but still cool), GMail and GTalk both feature on my Quick Launch menu but Google really yanked my chain when they pulled the Google Deskbar and replaced it with Google Desktop © Mazeguy I only wanted a bar.. just a simple little bar...

I should have twigged at the name change... Deskbar to Desktop...© Mazeguy I'm really not being bum retentive about it... my monitor isn't that big, I have a ViewSonic VP171s which I just adore but it's only a 17" so desktop real estate is at premium... and for Google to slap a massive footprint right up the side of it was a huge shock to my system... nervous system that is not computer system © Mazeguy I had a quick poke and a prod to see what it was all about and then tried to work out what use it would be to me at the moment... I didn't find anything there that could compete with my current littering of applications that take precedence over every precious pixel I have... so uninstall it I did... but where on where had my deskbar gone? © Mazeguy my one click access to Google was now missing © Mazeguy

I don't disagree that I could launch a browser window or install the Google Toolbar... but I don't always have a browser readily available or ready for action so that cuts out both those options when it comes to productivity... so my hunt began... where oh where could I find my much loved (and needed) Google Deskbar... I Googled high and I Googled low, and at that stage with no version number to hand it was like chasing a chicken in a black hole with one leg tucked up my jumper.. hours passed.. I cussed at Google long and loud and stubbornly refused to cave into an upgrade that so rudely consumes a hefty portion of my desktop... and then I found it © Mazeguy

Tucked over at download.com, sitting there all by itself is my much loved Google Deskbar 0.5.81 beta © Mazeguy

Peace has been restored © Mazeguy
Bless you download.com, I owe you big time © Mazeguy
Sorry Google © Mazeguy I didn't mean half what I said during my tantrum © Mazeguy ... but you could have left my bar as a bar... a bar shouldn't be a top.. a top is a top and a bar is a bar.... and never the two should combine © Mazeguy not even if the application was last added to the download.com database on 19 November 2003  © Mazeguy LOL! *cough* © Mazeguy
